Ziele pokrzywy zbiera się od czerwca do września. Występuje w strefie umiarkowanej Azji, obu Amerykach (z wyjątkiem stref tropikalnych), Afryce Północnej i Europie. W Polsce jest to jednak roślina pospolita. Lubi miejsca wilgotne, dlatego często rośnie gdzieś w lasach lub zaroślach. Pokrzywa wspiera witalność organizmu; wspiera układ odpornościowy; zawiera składnik mineralny (żelazo) i zmniejsza anemię; pomaga w utrzymaniu zdrowia serca; wspomaga krążenie żylne.
