Collagen is one of the most important and complex natural polymers. A characteristic feature of all collagen proteins is a macromolecule with a right-handed superhelix structure formed by the winding of three individual left-handed polypeptide chains, each containing approximately 1,000 amino acids.
Collagen is the main component of the extracellular matrix, found in virtually all body tissues (skin, tendons, cartilage, bones, teeth, blood vessel walls, intracorporal membranes), providing them with resistance to stretching.
In addition to its biomechanical role, collagen, by interacting with specific receptors, influences cell adhesion, differentiation, growth, and survival. It plays an important role in organ development, tissue repair, and wound healing.
As a biological polymer, collagen is constantly synthesized and degraded in the intercellular space. In a young and healthy body, collagen undergoes regular replacement (approximately 3 kg per year) and systematic regeneration. Oestrogen, insulin, and thyroid hormones, among others, contribute to the synthesis of collagen fibres, while the availability of vitamin C also has a beneficial effect.
So far, 29 types of collagen have been isolated and described, each characterized by a different structure, function and occurrence in the body.
There are mainly two types of collagen in the skin - the dominant (as in the entire body) type I, which forms the framework and gives the skin its tension and firmness, and type III, which wraps around the collagen I framework and keeps it in the right position, provides the skin with elasticity.
With age, endogenous collagen synthesis declines, leading to collagen damage and loss, and cell renewal slows. The outer layer of the skin loses moisture and elasticity, becomes thinner, and wrinkles and furrows appear. Factors contributing to skin deterioration include UV radiation, smoking, hormonal imbalances, exposure to toxic substances, and genetic predisposition. All of these factors lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species (free radicals), which degrade the structure of connective tissue.
Aliness proSkin Fish Collagen + Vitamin Cis a food supplement in a convenient sachet form containing a high dose (5 g) hydrolysed fish collagen and the maximum dose of vitamin C (1000mg), in the form of L-ascorbic acid. The contents of the sachet can be dissolved in cold water to obtain a drink with a natural fruit flavour.
Product contains naturally occurring in the skin collagen and vitamin C which:
- helps in the proper production of collagen to ensure the proper functioning of blood vessels;
- helps in the proper production of collagen to ensure the proper functioning of bones;

Fish collagen: our product contains on average 96% collagen type I+ 4% collagen Type III obtained from the skin of wild cod. The manufacturer is FOS certified.® (Friend of the Sea) confirming sustainable harvesting, respecting the marine environment. Both fishing and collagen production take place in the European Union.
The combination of type I and III collagens reflects the natural collagen profile of the skin, giving it appropriate elasticity.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is highly biologically active. It participates in many crucial reactions and transformations, stimulating various biochemical processes in the body. The action of vitamin C in the human body relies primarily on electron transfer, which is essential for the proper functioning of many processes. Ascorbic acid provides electrons to enzymes, including those involved in the formation of collagen cross-links through the hydroxylation of proline and lysine. Hydroxylation is essential for the formation of strong collagen spiral bonds; in the skin, this process stabilizes the scaffolding composed of type I and III collagen.
One of the factors that damages both the dermis and epidermis cells, contributing to their degeneration, is oxidative stress. The action of free radicals can disrupt tissue growth, alter cell metabolism and function, and destroy lipid and protein structures.
The effect of their action on the skin is to reduce its elasticity and firmness and weaken the skin's defence mechanisms, which accelerates the aging process.
Ascorbic acid is the most well-known antioxidant. The unique structure of ascorbic acid, which contains two adjacent groups, a hydroxyl and a carbonyl, makes this molecule an excellent hydrogen or electron donor. Vitamin C maintains adequate redox potential and participates in the neutralization of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, protecting cells from oxidative damage.
