Milk thistle Contraindications

Milk thistle should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

People with a history of hormone-related cancers, including breast, uterine, and prostate cancer, should not take milk thistle.

DO NOT take milk thistle if you are allergic to ragweed, marigolds, chrysanthemums, chamomile, yarrow, or daisies.

Artichoke Contraindications
Artichoke is contraindicated in people with duct obstruction and should be used with extreme caution if the individual has gallstones (biliary lithiasis).

Barberry Contraindications
Use with caution in the presence of irregular heartbeat.

Dandelion Contraindications

In some people, dandelion might cause increased stomach acid and heartburn. It may also irritate the skin. People with kidney or gallbladder problems, or gallstones should consult their doctors before eating dandelion.

N-ACETYL CYSTEINE (NAC) Contraindications

NAC may strengthen the effects of some medications that suppress the immune system, such as azathioprine (Imuran), cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan), or prednisone (Deltasone). Do not take NAC with these medications without consultation with a doctor.

Turmeric Contraindications

People with bile duct problems, people taking anticoagulant or antidiabetic medications and people who had surgery within the past 2 weeks should avoid turmeric.

These types of drugs, herbs, and supplements reduce blood clotting. Taking fish oil supplements with them might increase the risk of bleeding.

* Blood pressure drugs, herbs, and supplements.

Taking fish oil supplements can slightly lower blood pressure. Taking these supplements with blood pressure drugs might increase the effects on blood pressure.

* Orlistat, Xenical, Alli.
Taking fish oil with this weight-loss drug might decrease the absorption of fish oil. Consider taking the supplement and drug two hours apart.

* Contraceptive drugs. Some contraceptive drugs might interfere with the effect fish oil typically has on triglycerides. Consult your doctor.

* Vitamin E. Taking fish oil can decrease vitamin E levels.
