What is Lion's Mane?
Lion's Mane (Hericium enrinaceus) is a species of mushroom that occurs in deciduous forests with old trees and grows mainly on the trunks of old oaks and beeches. Lion's Mane produces fruiting bodies with a characteristic, fluffy appearance, resembling a lion's mane. This is where it gets its common name - Lion's Mane.

The natural region of occurrence and cultivation and the place where this mushroom is rooted in culture and tradition is Asia. Thanks to its properties, Lion's Mane has been known and valued in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries and widely used by local herbalists.

Lion’s Mane, like other mushrooms, is rich in polysaccharides, the most numerous group of which are: beta-glucans.

Beta-glucans and polysaccharides

Polysaccharides are a large group of chemical compounds with long, chain molecules, built from repeating, sugar units. Due to their structure, polysaccharides can therefore be viewed as biopolymers, occurring naturally in plant and animal organisms. Polysaccharides include: starch, cellulose, glycogen and chitin. Individual polysaccharides have different properties and therefore play different functions, depending on the way in which the monomeric sugar units are linked together, as well as on their type.

Another subgroup of polysaccharides characteristic of mushrooms are beta-glucans, which, like cellulose, are a component of dietary fibre, but unlike cellulose, they are its soluble fraction. Beta-glucans are part of the cell walls of mushrooms, constituting one of the main structural elements of their fruiting bodies. From a chemical point of view, they are compounds composed of D-glucose molecules connected by beta-glycosidic bonds. Beta-glucans differ in their chemical structure depending on their origin; practically every species of mushrooms has its own, unique variety of beta-glucans.

What makes ours stand out ecological extract? / Double standardization

When choosing food supplements based on extracts, it is worth checking what the extract is standardized for. Although many products are based on extracts with high standardizations, they usually refer only to the total content of polysaccharides. However, there is no information about the content of beta-glucans, while they are the most important fraction of polysaccharides. Information on the total content of polysaccharides alone does not therefore determine the high quality of the extract, even if it is 40%, 50% or more. These may be alpha-glucans (which include starch, for example), or additionally, the content of polysaccharides may be artificially high due to the presence of maltodextrin, which is sometimes added as a carrier to stabilize the extract.

BeOrganic, Lion’s Mane was created based on high-quality, double-standardized mushroom fruiting body extract Hericium erinaceus, which guarantees a content of active ingredients of at least 30% of all naturally occurring polysaccharides and 20% of beta-glucans.

BeOrganic Lion’s Mane does not contain any animal ingredients, making it a product suitable for vegans. The product does not contain any preservatives or dyes.

“The strong point of Aliness products is the best quality raw materials, which is why it is a market leader in many product lines.”
